HEATHER HEYER, 32 YEARS OLD

The coalition of grassroots organizations and activists, had already met in the streets for years.

The night of Charlottesville, there was an immediate call to action across the city.

A motion to create space for healing, for togetherness, for solidarity.

As community organizers, there is a scope of view wider than our own two eyes. We stand shoulder to shoulder, because our fear does not go away when we stand on the front lines, but with cadre…we are not alone.

While the speeches moved us to healing, the space continued for hours…walking, healing, chanting for peace through the streets of Downtown Los Angeles until well after midnight. Bikes holding traffic, the fear of another disaster in the back of all of our minds. We stood together, as one, no fear lead the way.

The tears of healing, empathy, compassion…we can experience those within, but coming together in a moment with community … all healing together, is a key to building the peace filled way.

Cadre. CommUNITY. This is the way.
